About the Region
Zanzibar is an island that is independent in domestic affairs but tied to Tanzania in foreign affairs. The population is predominantly Muslim. Made up of two large islands and many smaller ones, Zanzibar's main source of livelihood is tourism. In the Stone Town area you can visit the old slave market, join spice tours, and take part in extra tours arranged so you can see the region's endemic species.
