About the Region
Zanzibar is an island that is autonomous in domestic affairs but tied to Tanzania in foreign affairs. The population is mostly Muslim. Made up of two large islands and many smaller ones, Zanzibar's main source of income is tourism. In the Stone Town area you can visit the old slave market, take spice tours and join extra excursions arranged so you can see the region's endemic species.
