Daymaniyat & Fahal Island Diving Tour
Oman is a diving country on the eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, looking out onto the Gulf of Oman. Thanks to its closeness to Muscat, the sites are reached by short boat runs: Fahal Island lies half an hour offshore from the city and is known for its caves and walls; the Daymaniyat Islands are a protected nature reserve of nine islets holding the richest reef life in the region. Landing rules in the reserve change with the season.
The summer monsoon sets the season. September to May is the settled period for diving; between June and August the sea gets up, plankton thickens and visibility drops. Water temperature falls to 22 degrees in February and passes 30 degrees at the end of summer. Whale sharks may be seen in the region between August and November — the price of plankton-rich water is visibility, and the reward is big animals.
Out of the water, the desert, the canyons and the calm urban fabric of Muscat begin. Our tour in this region is placed in April, in the clear window just before the season closes.
