70% of our planet is covered by water, and the best way to start exploring this vast blue world is the RAID Open Water 20 course. This certification opens the door both to calm, relaxing dives and to underwater wonders all around the world.

Course requirements

  • Age: Minimum 12 years old. The Junior Open Water Diver course is available for students under 12.
  • Health and documents: Complete a liability release, safe diving practices form and diving medical questionnaire. If you have a health issue, submit a doctor-approved medical form. All documents can be accessed online once you register with the RAID system.
  • Swimming ability: Swim 200 metres (no time limit) and stay afloat on the surface for 10 minutes.

Course structure

  • Documents and academic training: Review of the required documents and manuals, theory sessions and exam procedures.
  • Physical skills: A 10-minute survival float with no swimming aids.
  • Underwater experience: Diving practice in a pool or shallow water, followed by four open water dives to a maximum depth of 20 metres and at least two hours of total underwater time.

Certification

Once you earn your RAID Open Water Diver certification, you can dive with a buddy to a depth of 20 metres / 65 feet. This certification is recognised worldwide and is the starting point for anyone wishing to continue on to more advanced diving courses.
