The RAID Divemaster course is one of the most prestigious professional levels in the diving community, and it is also a prerequisite for becoming a RAID Dive Instructor. This course offers a career path that lets you pass on the experience and knowledge you've gained through diving to others.

Prerequisites

  • Certifications: Hold RAID Open Water 20, Advanced 35, Nitrox Specialty, Deep 40 Specialty, Navigation Specialty and Master Rescue Diver certifications.
  • Diving experience: At least 60 open water dives and a total of 25 hours of underwater experience.
  • Health: A diving medical report issued within the last 12 months.

To build a stronger professional profile, it's also recommended that you gain the specialty ratings that are popular in your area.

Course content

Theory (online training)

  • Diving fundamentals: Safety procedures and basic rules.
  • Environmental factors: The environmental effects of the area where the dive takes place.
  • Equipment use: Correct use and management of diving equipment.
  • Physics and physiology: The effects of diving on the human body.

Practical section

  • Personal diving skills: Review of the skills you already have.
  • Diver rescues: Testing of rescue skills.
  • Dive briefings and site assessments: Pre-dive briefings and assessment of the sites.
  • Risk management: Analysing and managing the risks encountered while diving.

Supervising student divers

  • Assisting the dive instructor during Open Water 20 training.
  • Assisting the dive instructor during advanced-level training.
  • Assisting the dive instructor during core rescue training.

Dive leadership

  • Refreshing scuba skills: Helping divers develop their skills.
  • Local area briefings: Assessing the safety of the area where the dive will take place.
  • Recreational dive leadership: Leading certified divers.

Certification

Once certified as a Divemaster, you'll be able to plan and manage dives professionally. You will also have gained the fundamental knowledge and experience required to become a RAID Instructor.
